Rogue doesn't talk much about her past. In fact, asking too many questions about it is liable to get you hurt. What little is known in lore, however, is that she was born and raised in Mississippi and ran away when she was still young. Mystique took her in as a foster daughter and trained (read: indoctrinated) her for the Brotherhood from the time she was in her early teens.

At some point, she was brought to New York and played an important role in the liberating of Rykers, at which point she was promoted to Field Leader.
