There's not many places around town you can find an abundance of teenagers, well not many outside of Clinton. This place seems to hold the great god of all hangouts. The 7-11 parking lot. At the moment, Jubilation Lee is sitting outside of the convenience store on the edge of the curb, trying without avail to ignore some rowdy boys her own age. She's got a Twinkie in her hand and has been looking forward to something to eat almost all day. It's too bad that she picked that particlar place to buy it from.
Hotwire has finally gotten smart and went to a place where she could possibly get a map. She had been told 7-11 would be a good place to go. She spots Jubilee and the boys bothering her. Well, she can't let this keep up. She marches up to the group. "Do you mind? There are things to do other than harass girls eating."
It's not that Jubilation really needed help, the girl is more than capable of taking care of herself. At least with boys like that. She was just trying to ignore them in favor of the little cake treat. A small smile is offered to the Arabic woman after the boys have scattered and she takes her first bite. Chewing slowly, she considers the woman in front of her for a little while before swallowing and finally deciding to speak. "Thank you Miss Kaman, though I think they would have been satisfied if I had moved. I must have offended them somehow." But she didn't move, she was a little too hungry and the 30 cent treat just seemed a little too good.
Hotwire nods. "Still. not good they no respect. Might cause trouble another time. Or another person. This way, they will have some respect." She pauses and looks at the treat. "That looks good. I will have to try one. I'll be right back. I was told this place might have a map. A map might help me a little."
In the time that it takes the woman to run into the store and come back out again with her map, Jubilation has already finished the Twinkie. So she waits, after all the woman said she would be right back. This implies that she wanted to visit a little more with the teen, right? Standing slowly, the girl brushes some of the dirt off of her clothes and gazes inside, pondering another one of the treats.
Hotwire comes out of the store with a map and a bag. She grins at Jubilee. "That looked interesting and so did a lot of other things. I had promised you food and I keep my promise. Besides which, I am new in town and do not know places. We can talk and eat yes? I got other stuff of here as well."
A couple of dark eyebrows shoot up high on the young girl's forehead. While the woman did promise her food, convenience store fair is as questionable as the meat on a stick the girl had been eating yesterday. "Hai, we can talk, but I am full of the food from there. Too much of it is very bad." It's a good excuse, quite a workable one. There's teeth to consider, as well as sugar overload, then there's the wonderful problem of the dreaded zit. While Jubilation does the best she can with what she has, she can only afford the bath house so often.
Hotwire nods, "Then where is good place to eat? Though…" she ramages through the bag and pulls out an energy drink, "How good are these? Do they actually help with energy level?"
"The drinks that give you energy will make you have a headache the next day." Not that the girl is speaking from experience, but she has read the warning label. "There are many places to eat in this city. What would you like to eat? There are pizzas, and hamburgers, or we can go to Chinatown for dim sum." Just by the dreamy look on the girl's face, the last option is probably her favorite.
Hotwire tries the words over. "Dim sum? Dim sum? I've never had it before. Sounds interesting. We go try some of the Dim sum. Where would we find a place that sells it?"
"They only have good dim sum in Chinatown, I know the best place. Come, quickly." Then the young girl begins to jog toward the direction of her home. Does she really think they're going to run there all the way from Hell's Kitchen? Oh yes she does. She doesn't have the money to waste on public transit.
Hotwire grins, "Why not ride behind me on bike? We get there faster. Then you will join me in trying the new foods yes?"
The motorcycle is eyed with a hint of curiosity and a lot of caution. The curiosity wins out though and the young girl climbs onto the back of the bike for the ride. Hopefully Kaman has ear protection, because the majority of the ride is spent with the girl screaming for her bloody life every time they speed up or round a corner.
Hotwire is a VERY good biker. At least she sort of, kinda knows her way back to China Town.
Once the bike stops the young Asian immediately jumps off and wobbles to the sidewalk. "I think I prefer my method of travel." Running? Jumping? Walking? Yes, all better than this dangerous method. Once the machine has been parked the woman is led into a small hole in the wall establishment. It seems as though the owners are familiar with the teen because they are led to a small table in the back. No menus are provided. "This restaurant serves the best chicken feet in New York."
Hotwire looks very curious. "Chicken feet? I heard that is not edible. But I will try. And the Dim Sim and what else shall we try?"
The question is answered with a loud laugh, possibly the first one heard from the girl in months. "No, no Miss, dim sum is all of the food put together. It is like…" She is at a loss for words for a moment before snapping her fingers and pointing up to the ceiling. "It is like an English buffet. But there is no trough for the people to eat from."
Hotwire nods. "Ok. Then order and well will eat yes?" She pulls out the map book. "And we try to figure this out?"
The girl doesn't order, instead, the trollies begin arriving at their table and she pulls out little steam pot after little steam pot and arranging them on the table. There are all sorts of strange and wonderful foods as the covers come off. Chicken feet, shumai, gyoza, meat on a stick, sticky rice… so much goodness. Grabbing up her chopsticks, the young girl begins dishing out two bowls of food. "Here, you try this. It is very good." One of the bowls is handed to the woman and then Jubilation digs into her own food with zeal.
The food doesn't stop coming until the two at the table actually slow down on their eating. Octopus, more chicken feet, some gelatin that has some floaty things in it, so so many different things to eat. Once they are completely done, Jubilee leans back in ther chair with a happy sigh. She's going to regret eating so much later when her stomach starts to ache.
"Yes, I am very full, thank you." Not a mention was made of the map or the book during their dinner, but now it is time to relax and nearly time to exit the restaurant. They haven't even looked at them to be honest, until now, that is. "Where is it that you would like to go with your map?"
Hotwire peer at the map book. "I am trying to learn where important places are. Like my hotel." She grins, "Like where this place is. And other places. This should help yes?"
Jubilation nods just a little and eyes the map and then the woman quite warily. "It will help if you know how to read where you are going. You said you do not know how to read English?" The young girl makes a mark where the restaurant is on the map, and then the 7-11. "I do not know where your hotel is. What other places would you like to find?"
Hotwire nods, "I do not read english well. That is part of the problem. But I can follow a map somewhat if I know page." She watches as Jubilee points to places on the map and nods. "That is good."
The waiter comes bye and drops the check for the meal. Surprisingly it is not very much for the amount of food that the pair received. "So you only wish to know these two places? Perhaps Remy would be able to show you more." The girl has a ghost of a smile on her face as she talks about the man they had met last night.
