After a wonderful night in the city, Lorna had a little trouble waking up and even more trouble getting to class on time. She didn't. So after missing her first two study periods, she's a little behind on her work. Who better to catch up with than one of the more serious minded people in the school? So with a pile of books in her arms, Lorna raps quickly on the door and marches into Laura's room.
She's dressed in her usual purple and green attire T-shirt with a pair of snug fitting jeans and canvas flats. The t-shirt looks as though it's a Salvation Army find or someone else's cast off, the fabric is that old and soft looking. "Hey Laura!" she grins, "I was wondering if I could get some help with my math? I'm just not getting this whole deal with matrices and correlation and real numbers… I mean there's fake numbers? Like woo fake number one!" The young woman is positively glowing as she flops down on the bed beside the other girl. Shield off.
As the footfalls outside her door alert her to the arrival of someone just prior to the rapping on the door, Laura tilts her head to one side, listening. But it's the rapping on the door and then the door opening up to allow Lorna to barge in prompts the dark-haired girl to turn her head toward the other girl with an arched eyebrow. "Well, just come on in, then," she mutters briefly before she sits up. It appears that she had been lying back on her bed, reading a book, which she now sets aside on her side-table.
As she sits up, her bare feet find their way to the throw rug next to her bed and she sits there, staring as Lorna goes off about math. Arching that eyebrow higher, she queries, "Who do I look like? Rene Descartes? Don't you think you should get help from Jonah or maybe Freddy? They're the math wizards around here…" She apparently doesn't get the amusement about real versus fake numbers.
"Rene De-who? Is that a student here that I don't know yet? French? Is she from Canada or France? You have to tell me everything!" Homework forgotten, Lorna kicks off her flats and folds her legs up on the bed, sitting Indian style. The green haired woman's eyes are lit up with excitement as she chews on her lower lip to hide the growing smile on her face. "And… AND!! You will totally not believe what I did last night. I'm still amazed. More than amazed." She's actually trembling with excitement, that's how badly she wants to spill her own news. But first… Rene.
"Uh, Rene Descartes. -He- was a famous mathematician and philosopher. Really, Lorna… have you never heard of Wikipedia?" Not that it's the most academic of sources, but it's not bad for general knowledge, right? She sighs and rubs at her face briefly as Lorna's excitement threatens to completely overflow and drown her in it. "And… so… what did you do last night? Actually sit still and not bounce for more than five seconds?" Oh yes, she's in a bit of a surly mood already. Tends to happen when people just burst into her room and start spouting off quadratic equations at her like she knows anything about them.
"Really? That's not good gossip at all, really Laura. You're a total tease when it comes to this stuff. I got all excited!" Lorna's lower lips juts out in a fake pout before she starts smiling again. She squeezes her eyes shut and practically starts floating from happiness. "I got a date… no TWO dates with Alex Masters… We're going to be together all weekend!" For Lorna' this is cause to stop classes for a week and give her a free pass for the rest of the semester. But she's always been a little bit flighty and carefree, which is possibly the reason why she's always behind in her work. "All because I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment and he's the only person I know in my building. It was sooooo embarrassing, right after a shower."
Peering a bit at the girl next to her, Laura replies, "Have you ever known me to hop on the rumour mill train, Lorna? I don't tease. People simply read more into my words than are actually there." She makes a slight 'harumph'ing noise, but unlike Lorna's faux pout, she actually is a little put out. But she's always a little put out, so this is no cause for alarm, really. As Lorna goes on about her date, though, two dark eyebrows shoot upward. "That guy? From those movies? Fasttrack or whatever?" She totally got it wrong but hey, at least she knows who the guy is and isn't dissing him. "Well, wow… uh, congrats, Lorna." But something makes her pause. "Whoa, wait… he lives in your building?"
"FastLANE…" Lorna corrects, completely ignoring the other woman's surly nature. Eventually, she'll melt to the charms and if she doesn't… well it's something Lorna will have to work around. "Yeah I have all the movies and he said my mom and I could go to his next premier. Isn't that exciting?! He invited my MOM because she's a fan of his too. He's just so fantastic and nice…" Then the dreamy fangirl sigh and the collapse against the wall. It's sickening really. "Yeah, he's got a penthouse there, isn't that great? I'll be able to see him practically all the time maybe. Well when he's not busy, or working. Or I'm not busy, or going to school." Her eyebrows furrow for an instant as she raises her hand to rub at her chin. "That's a lot of schedule to work around… well hopefully I'll see him more than once a month. But TWO dates in TWO nights! Oh my god. It's like a dream come true! Because he's hot and he's Alex Masters."
Narrowing her eyes at Lorna, Laura replies, "Wait, wait… is the premier the date? If so… why is your Mom going? Or is the date separate? I'm so confused…" She simply can't follow along with Lorna's rapid-fire excitement-driving telling of the situation. Things are too complicated. This is why she doesn't date. She's expressed her concerns in the past of how dating makes things so much more complicated. She's not entirely sure she could handle all the complications. "Don't get me wrong… I'm happy for you. It's awesome… I'm just… fuzzy on all the details."
"No no… the premier is separate from this weekend. Oh my god, I can't wait to tell mom. She's going to totally die when she hears about everything, really." Lorna's mouth motors are really working overtime with trying to spit out every thought that's pouring through her head. It really isn't fair, she should have been born with telepathy or something, maybe if she'd been the Professor's daughter it would be different. "But we were talking, Alex and me, last night. We were comparing how awesome our mom's are. Did you know that he got his mom a part on Fastlane? Isn't that great? I mean, a man that treats his mom right has to be something special."
Laura's obviously really starting to feel overwhelmed by the speed of Lorna's mouth. She rakes a hand through her dark locks and then replies almost absently, "Yes, yes, it's all very awesome." She's really not trying to sound trite. She's not trying to dismiss the other girl's excitement. She just doesn't know how to react accordingly. Finally, she says, "Well, sounds like something promising. Good for you… uh… didn't you have math questions? Going to go try poking Jonah about it?"
